Notes This return does not include large numbers of slaves liberated by various military expeditions, nor vast numbers of newly enslaved Pagans who have returned to their homes; it only refers to such slaves as have passed through the hands of the political staff, and therefore represents only a fraction of the slaves liberated in Northern Nigeria as a consequence of British rule in the past six years. Total number of surviving "freed slaves" is 2,183, of that total only 300 remained in freed slave homes by 1906.
