Notes | A bold case of kidnapping occurred in February 1894, by which one Muftab, an African freeman, who had taken passage in buglah at Lingah on his way from Busrah to Zanzibar, we landed by the nakhoda of the buglah on the Batineh coast and sold into slavery. Information of the fact was given by the friends of the African on their arrival at Muscat; on a representation being made to the Sultan by this Agency, steps were taken which resulted in the release of the kidnapped man and his restoration to his friends. It is satisfactory to add that the nakhoda's craft was confiscated, and that he is at present undergoing a term of imprisonment in one of the Muscat forts. |
