Notes Virginie Chaillou-Atrous has a spreadsheet based on registers de matriculas for this group. She makes a clear distinction that these people were also volunteers, but who came from extreme poverty and without many other options. They should probably not be called liberated Africans, although their registers and contracted services, mostly in sugar production.
