Notes Between 1881 and 1895, Thomas Jago, the British Consul General, remarked that an annual average of 144 enslaved people were emancipated during the governorship of Ahmed Rasim Pasha, which gives a total of some 2,160 people. However, Jago does not specify how many of these enslaved people were liberated as a result of British action. The majority of these people were female who had been brought into the province in previous years.
