Notes Out of the 350 to 400 slaves reported by Consul Beyts to have been landed at Jeddah, 15 have been discovered and set free, and that the prohibition of the slave trade is rigourously enforced by the authorities. 12 out of the 15 have been sent back to Souakin. This case continues to be discussed in 1879 in TNA, FO 84/1543, "Zohrab to Layard," 121 May 1879, f. 194-195.
