Notes The Joseys obtained their freedom 'in the usual way' and landed at Lagos. However, being unwell and without children, they bought a slave boy, 'who is now in this Slave Court'. They were under the impression that slaves 'brought down from the interior' might be retained but not resold. They therefore appeal to the Court for pity and request that the boy be apprenticed to them 'for a term of years'.
