Notes Porpoise left Rio for Africa three times between 1843 and 1845, twice returning in ballast, and once with ten slavers on board; arrived in Rio January 1845, among whom were two slave boys. US Marines boarded the ship and detained Brazilian citizens. Brazilian authorities. US Consul Wise forced to release everyone.
