Notes On 21 January 1845, during his second trip to the Regency for the BFASS, Richardson noted to John Scoble that it was a daily occurrence for slaves to seek asylum in the British consulate. Richardson estimated that up to “a thousand of these slaves [had] been liberated [by] Sir Thomas Reade since the [preliminary] measure [banning slavery in the Regency] of the bey for the abolition of slavery in his territories.”
