Notes | A fines de 1819, la corbeta de guerra haitiana Wilberforce apresó al bergantín negrero español Yuyú o los Dos Unidos de matricula en Cádiz, y lo condujo a Port-au-Prince, donde fueron liberados los centenares de esclavos que conducía para Cuba. Por Real Orden del Ministro de Estado español, se envió al Capitán General de la isla de Cuba el expediente del asunto para que exigiera del presidente Boyer, de Haití, la devolución de los esclavos. El entonces capitán general interino - fue en 1819 y 1821 -, don Juan María Echeverri, envió un comisionado al presidente haitiano, provisto de un documento oficial en el cual reclamaba la devolución de los esclavos liberados. El presidente Boyer contestó el 24 de enero de 1821 en tono conciliador, pero negándose a acceder a la petición española. |
