Et pour finir, un autre drame, sur lequel, le 25 janvier 1836 le ministère demande au gouverneur du Sénégal de fournir tous les renseignements possibles : "Le Sr Desbarbès (André), capitaine au long cours inscrit à Bayonne a été emabarqué à Saint-Thomas en qualité de second capitaine sur la goélette la Vénus. Il était présent à bord de ce bâtiment quand il a été captur´ par les Anglais sur la côte d Afrique en 1829, faisant la traite des noirs et il a appert de renseignements récemment recueillis que ce capitaine s'est suicidé pour cette goélette le jour ou le lendemain de sa capture.
